We visited the Bioengineering Institute of Technology at UIC, where we were hosted by Dr. Javier Gil and student Sergi Chavales and given a tour of the laboratory facilities.

Through this visit, we learned that the institute collaborates closely with its affiliated hospital, enabling researchers to directly understand the needs of both clinicians and patients.

We also toured the institute’s laboratories. As our visit took place on a Sunday, no researchers were working in the laboratories at the time.

However, through the windows, we could see that the laboratories were well organized and carefully maintained. Dr. Javier Gil also explained that researchers working on similar topics are seated close to one another, which not only facilitates discussion and collaboration but also allows research equipment to be shared and managed more efficiently.

This laboratory management approach may serve as a useful reference for the Center in the future, particularly in the management of local and international students.
