The 12th World Biomaterials Congress (World Biomaterials Congress, WBC 2024) was held from May 26 to 31, 2024, at the EXCO Convention Center in Daegu, South Korea.

Held once every four years, the World Biomaterials Congress is one of the most important international academic events in the field of biomaterials, bringing together scientists, scholars, and industry experts from around the world to exchange the latest research findings, technological developments, and trends in clinical applications related to biomaterials.

This year, Prof. Hsu-Wei Fang led a delegation of postdoctoral researchers, research assistants, and graduate students to participate in the congress. During the event, the team actively took part in various academic activities and exchanged research experiences and technological achievements with students, researchers, and experts from different countries through research presentations and academic discussions.

The congress was jointly organized by the Korean Society for Biomaterials and the International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Science and Engineering (IUSBSE). More than 4,000 experts, scholars, and researchers from around the world participated in the event, representing fields including biomaterials, bioengineering, biomedicine, and other interdisciplinary applications.

The congress featured a wide range of activities, including keynote lectures, thematic forums, parallel sessions, and poster presentations, providing participants with a diverse and in-depth platform for international academic exchange.

For the participating graduate students, the congress was not only an opportunity for academic exchange but also a highly inspiring learning experience. Through interactions with research teams from different countries, the students gained insights into the latest research directions in biomaterials and medical technology, while also learning about developments in technological innovation, research facilities, and practical applications across different countries. These experiences further broadened their international perspectives.

In addition, the congress provided the team with opportunities to gain a deeper understanding of global trends in medical technology and the medical device industry, as well as regional differences in medical device regulations, product verification, and regulatory approval processes. These exchanges will help bridge future research outcomes with practical market needs while creating further opportunities for technology commercialization, international collaboration, and the joint development of innovative technologies.

 

 

Notably, Postdoctoral Researcher Chang Yu-Cheng received the Best Poster Award at the congress. This recognition highlights the international acknowledgement of his research achievements and academic performance, while also demonstrating the Center's research capabilities in the field of biomaterials.

 

 

Participation in WBC 2024 enabled the team to gain a better understanding of international trends in biomaterials research and medical technology development. It also expanded opportunities for collaboration with international academic institutions and research teams, laying a solid foundation for future technological research and development, commercialization of research outcomes, and international cooperation.
