2024 BIO Asia-Taiwan Exhibition: NTUT Forum Gathers Global Experts, Marking a New Milestone in International Collaboration

At the 2024 BIO Asia-Taiwan, The High-Value Biomaterials Research and Commercialization Center (HBRCC) hosted an international forum featuring several renowned experts in biomedical materials.

Participants included Prof. Takanori Ichiki from the University of Tokyo, Prof. Yasuhiko Tabata from Kyoto University, Prof. Yu-Chen Hu from National Tsing Hua University, Prof. Haytam Kasem from the Azrieli Faculty of Engineering in Jerusalem, Prof. Maziar Ramezani from Auckland University of Technology, and Deputy Director Dr. Lun-De Liao from National Health Research Institutes(NHRI).

Led by our center’s director, Prof. Hsu-Wei Fang, the forum focused on models for international collaboration in biomedical materials.

Experts shared their experiences in academia-industry partnerships across different countries, aiming to enhance global cooperation and advance the field of biomedical materials.

During the forum, international experts witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between NTUT and NHRI, aimed at promoting academic and talent exchange, as well as the commercialization of research outcomes.

Prof. Fang highlighted the longstanding collaboration between the HBRCC and NHRI in technology development and commercialization, which has led to successful patents for artificial tear formulations in Japan and Taiwan.

The partnership also assisted NHRI in planning the commercialization of its research outcomes, hoping that this new agreement will create new opportunities for Taiwan's biomedical materials industry.

Dr. Lun-De Liao emphasized NHRI as a leading medical and biomedical research institution in Taiwan, noting that the MOU with Taipei University of Technology will enable deeper collaboration in technology development, talent cultivation, and commercialization, fostering advancements in research and academia-industry partnerships in the biomedical field.

Transforming academic research into commercial products presents significant challenges, particularly in the biomedical sector.

Furthermore, different countries and institutions operate under varying systems when promoting industry applications.

By integrating diverse resources and understanding market needs, the center aims to accelerate the development process and build a "MIT" brand.

With extensive experience in research commercialization, HBRCC looks forward to collaborating with international partners and creating new opportunities for the global biomedical industry.
