History
The Center was originally established in 2008 as the Interdisciplinary Research and Development Center for Biomedical Materials Engineering. In its early stage, the Center focused on three core directions: Medical Engineering Research Team, Multidisciplinary Technology, and Metro Taipei. These concepts were integrated into the English identity (M+T) × 3 = MT³, symbolizing the integration and expansion of interdisciplinary research and development capabilities.
In 2015, with the support of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), the Center further established the MOST Biomedical Materials Surface Engineering Industry–Academia Technology Alliance, an important industry–academia platform aimed at helping Taiwan’s biotechnology and medical device industries address challenges in research and development as well as regulatory validation. Through industry–academia collaboration, the alliance connects academic research with industrial resources and further strengthens the Center’s ties with industry.
As the Center continued to accumulate research achievements and expand its scope of development, it was officially renamed the Center for High-Value Biomaterials Research and Commercialization in 2023, along with a renewed strategic positioning. Medical Engineering Research Team was updated to Medical Engineering Team, while Metro Taipei was renamed Market Triumph, reflecting a stronger emphasis on market application and commercialization and reinforcing the Center’s development from research and multidisciplinary integration to market implementation.
In line with this transformation, the Center’s English identity was also updated from MT³ to MT3 PLUS, accompanied by a redesigned logo. The renewed brand identity represents the Center’s continued advancement and expansion in biomedical materials research, multidisciplinary technology integration, and the commercialization of research outcomes.
